First Edition published 1937. A book of the majesty and mystery of ancient Egypt in the turbulent days of the Roman Empire which this master historian brings alive again, as he did with his fine biography of Napoleon, and of The Nile. Binding is of turquoise cloth with black titles and decoration on the spine, quite clean and unmarked, with faint wear to some corners and light compression of the spine head and heel. The binding is tight, solid and square. Rough cut. Former owner name label on endpaper, pages lightly toned, very clean and free from any marks or creases. Nicely maintained older book. Jacket is edge worn and rubbed but clean and intact, blue with orange silhouette of Cleopatra on front. 211 pages with Chronology and Index. 8.5 x 5.75 inches. The Viking Press, New York, 1937.
