WARMLY INSCRIBED ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER, " To my darling Joan-/ My love and interest in her future career. Always/Muriel Stuart/ '52". xii+ 243 pp. with index; 118 line drawing plates demonstrating various ballet techniques. Preface by George Ballanchine. Very good, some edge wear to the boards. Tattered dust jacket laid in. A classci in its field. a guide to the basic techniques and terminology of the ballet. From the personal library of the late general manager of the New York City Opera Daniel Rule, with his ownership signature on the front pastedown and again , as was his habit, on page 99. Muriel Stuart (1901-1991) was an English-born ballerina who danced with Anna Pavlova and later was the leading teacher at the American School of Ballet. Stuart first auditioned for Pavola when she was 8 years old and joined Pavlova's troupe at age 13, dancing with her until 1926.
