London: Tower Publishing. Very Good. 1896. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. A scarce copy of this Lost Race adventure novel. Set in African with Zulu armies and some europeans attempting to invade an advance scientific nation. "...for me it represents one of the peaks of development of 19th century science fiction: the lost race novel of the kind popularied by Rider Haggard, dressed up in a format which is perhaps as close as any British publisher came to matching the splendour of the French Vernes" - Spectrum of Fantasy Vol 1 page 151. VG book, some signs of slight damp to top of boards and of top and foredge, slightly visible on endpapers. Small stain at the top of pages 25-28. Lengthy dealer note in front and contemporary owners name in pen. 8 illustrated plates, publsihers ads in th eback on pages 325-328. With exception of the above internally clean and in NF condition. Provenance - From the Gary Munson Collection; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
