Naples, Florida : Bill Werber [no date in book, circa 1970s??] First Edition hardcover and dustjacket, 214 pages. INSCRIBED, SIGNED, AND DATED to friends Flo and Mike by the author. This is a self-published autobiography of William "Bill" Murray Werber (June 20, 1908 - January 22, 2009), who played third base with Major League Baseball teams New York Yankees, Boston Red Socks, Philadelphia Athletics, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Giants. He was a leading third baseman, a strong base runner, and an all-around top player. He details his boyhood in Maryland, his experience at college (Duke University), the MLB teams he played for (and the personalities, characteristics, and habits of his teammates), his defense of the Reserve Clause, and much more. This is wonderful book for anyone who enjoys big league baseball and wants to know more about a man who loved playing the game. Vintage. Condition of hardcover: Faint toning, mostly at edges with some edge wear, else Near Fine. Text clear and readable, vintage photographs clean and vivid. Free of writing in text and page tears.
