About This Item
London: Serpent's Tail, 1987. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A smart first translated edition of this novel by Kadare, set in Albania during the Second World War. First translated edition. Originally published in Albanian in 1971. Describing life in a small Albanian town during the Second World War, each alternate chapter of this novel offers a short fragment of a chronicle written from the point of view of the town's official chronicler. The other chapters are written in the first person, from the voice of a child, as they witness the consistent changing hands of their town as the political situation and occupation becomes more absurd. Written by Ismail Kadare, an Albanian novelist, poet, essayist, screenwriter, and playwright considered a leading international literary figure. In the original full black cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine
