About This Item
Philadelphia, Pa.: David McKay, 1894. Hardcover. Very Good. Two Volume Set - both in Near Very Good Condition, Stated 'Author's Revised Edition', on title pages. Top Edges Gilt (still bright). Elaborate decoration to spine and front covers. A period gift inscription on both blank front free end-papers, dated 1894. "The Conquest of Granada" has one 'gently' over-extended' gutter, (at Table of Contents), where some webbing is showing, but still a very tight text block. The last two pages of this volume have a 1" chip to top corner of margins. Both volumes have 17 illustrations each, all with tissue guards in place. "Alhambra" has a short split to front end-paper (at gutter) and a 1/2" lifted area of end-paper design. Does not detract. Both covers have light soiling, ivory areas a bit more so. Crown and foot of spine cloth just starting to fray. A good looking classic set. Author originally wrote this title under the pseudonym of "Fray Antonio Agapida." Irving is best known for "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". Heavy set, suggest Media postage (at cost, but worth it).
