About This Item

London and New York: George Routledge and Sons, 1873. Hardcover. Very good. Finely bound and featuring an original fore-edge painting of "Knole Park, Sevenoaks, Kent." Prominently featured in the image is Knole House, which served as the residence for five successive Archbishops of Canterbury from 1456 to 1537: Thomas Bourchier, John Morton, Henry Deane, William Warham, and Thomas Cranmer. Small octavo: xi, 387, [1, ads] p. with a frontispiece and textual illustrations. Full black morocco binding, with a red leather cross inlay on the front panel, decorative gilt stamping, five raised bands, bevelled edges, marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. A bit of minor wear to the corners and tips; otherwise very good.
