About This Item
Basel: Holbein-Verlag, 1945. 16 facsimiles of Chinese colour prints, mostly of flowers, fruits and plants, selected and with an introduction by Jan Tschichold, who also designed the typography. Text in German. Pp. 17 French-fold, [16 plates]. 4to., original Japanese-style sewn blue paper wrappers, title label with Chinese characters printed in black and gilt to upper cover, in the original split, chipped and toned glassine wrapper. A few threads at spine head loosening, some slight fading and chipping along edges of wrappers, small bookseller label to rear pastedown, still a good, clean copy.||Inserted loose is a note inscribed by typographer and designer Paul Standard, on his printed note paper with Reynolds Stone design: ‘Easter Greetings to Miriam & Herbert, from Stella & Paul, April 1947’.|
