This rare volume is not only a revised edition of "New terms and expressions" issued in 1913, but also an entirely re-written dictionary of Chinese language, contains more than 10000 phrases, such as newly born expressions, and several native collections from newspapers, magazines and books. Evan Morgan (1860 - 1941), was a British scholar and missionary in China. He came to China in 1884. From 1918 to 1930, he was the editor of the Shanghai Christian Literature Society. He published a number of books including "A guide to Wenli styles and Chinese ideals", "The Chinese speaker reading in modern Mandarin", "Chinese new terms: with English translations, classifications, introduction and indexes", "The new Chinese speaker", etc. Kelly & Walsh Ltd. was formed in 1876 through the amalgamation and partnership of two local Shanghai booksellers: Kelly and Co. and F. & C. Walsh. The company was incorporated on 1st July 1885, at that time it was located at No. 11 The Bund, before moving to 66 Nanking Road in 1918, with offices also at 12 Nanking Road. Active from the 1880s through the 1930s, with publications from cities including Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, and Yokohama, Kelly and Walsh headquarter moved to Hong Kong following the occupation of China by the Japanese, and was ultimately sold to book seller Swindon Book Co.
