About This Item

Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1948. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Signed by Author. 200 g; 96 pages, includes a frontispiece engraving, and a silhouette over an illustration of a ship on the front panel of the dust jacket. Slight shelf rubbing to the base edge of the boards, and ageing of the edges of the pages, the dust jacket is rubbed, and chipped, at the top and bottom of the spine section and of the front fold over crease. There is an inscription on the front end page to Hilda M. Wotherspoon signed by the author and dated 2/5/51. This is the story of Christian West, who was a good Victorian who became Ship's Captain and made a name for herself in the days when women were not expected to tackle a man's job at all -- let alone with spectacular success. (The publisher has obviously forgotten generations of women on the land). /authenticity Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by author on front-end page. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
