About This Item
New York: Henry Holt, 1956. The fifth published novel by Shulman (1913-1995). In an interesting reversal, Shulman wrote this novel based upon his previously-written treatment for the 1955 film "Rebel Without a Cause." The film starred James Dean, who died in an automobile accident prior to its release; that movie is now part of the LOC's National Film Registry. This is a Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Black cloth binding with yellow lettering; Shulman's signature reproduced on the front cover. The colors are really as new; there is a tiny white dot of discoloration on the top of the spine, else externally a Fine copy. Absolutely clean text; 270 pages. However, Quercus notes a publishers defect: the rear free endpapers are partially "glued down" by a bit of the cloth cover that has been mis-applied; this does not affect the textblock. The dustjacket is also Near Fine; all the colors are still bright, but it has been price-clipped and the black color tends to show the very minor wear. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine.
