Whiteley's Schoolboys' Story Book. William Whiteley Ltd. ND. Circa 1925. Quarto Annual. Illustrated cloth spine on Illustrated paper boards of Bi plane flying over desert. PP211 with 16 full page chromolithograph images. Many line drawings within text. 26 stories an articles written by notable authors as Algernon Blackwood and R A H Good Year. A little shelf wear to edges of boards. All pages are bright and clean, probably unread. A scarce copy of the book sold in the Whiteleys Department store in Bayswater, which was to be taken over by Selfridges in 1927.

Green line illustrated front and rear endpapers [both different]. 320 pages, 8vo / 215 x 160 mm. This is one of the E.N. Illustrated Standard and Art Gift Books from Nister, which was a 'series of elegantly bound in cloth of good quality, printed on art paper.' [Hunt]. Rubbing to corners, edges and top/tail of backstrip. Part of title has rubbed off on backstrip. Front hinge cracked but binding completely intact. Overall very good condition.

Tiny spot in margin of two pages, otherwise the inside pages are clean and unmarked. Dustjacket has heavy wear to the spine ends, with paper loss at each end. Corners and edges also worn, including tears, creases and tiny chips. The spine is rubbed and very slightly faded at the top. Reverse side has some browning. Price clipped.
