About This Item

Union Terminal Publications. Hardcover. New. These 4 major railroads interlined cars with the extensive Southern Pacific route structure. Historians know already which routes these lines connected with. The chapter for each railroad begins with the earliest equipment which pre-dated the heavy-weight era. Tables provide basic roster data including air conditioning system if applicable and exterior paint color. Some floor plans and general dimensions for some cars provide more detail. Most photographs are B&W as the rosters include pre-1900 cars. Some photographs are builders photos, some in-service photos, some photos show modifications to the cars over their service life. An Appendix details Western Pacific arch roof dining cars which had many similarities and dimensions to Harriman Standard cars but were not direct copies. Here is the publisher's description of the book: This is a companion volume to the five Southern Pacific passenger car volumes published by the Southern Pacific Historical and Technical Society. The dining and lounge cars of the railroads which inter-lined equipment on through trains operated jointly with the Southern Pacific are the cars detailed in this volume. The monster title of this book lists those railroads. The Southern Pacific routes these cars operated on were the Overland and Golden State routes. An addendum covers the arch roof dining cars operated by the Western Pacific Railroad. Contents: Dining and Lounge Cars Operated by C&NW, pp. 12-47, Dining and Lounge Cars Operated by CMStP&P, pp. 48-65, Dining and Lounge Cars Operated by CRI&P, pp. 66-117, Dining and Lounge Cars Operated by Union Pacific, pp. 118-193, Appendix: Western Pacific Non-Common Standard Arch Roof Dining Cars, pp. 194-199, Bibliography and Index, pp. 200-208. This is an extensive work with 265 photographs (25 in color), 59 plans, Rosters, Appendix, Bibliography, Glossary of Terms and Index. Union Terminal Publications, 208 pages, standard landscape book 10 x 8 in., B&W and Color photographs.

I reduce shipping for books that weigh less than 1 lb. with packaging. International shipping rates are quoted for a 1 lb. book. International orders that weigh more than 1 lb. will require additional shipping fees.

All books are shipped sealed in plastic to help prevent damage. Sturdy boxes are used often with bubble-wrap and additional padding. Thin titles may ship in a sturdy mailer with cardboard reinforcing. You will not receive 'rounded' books from Arizona Hobbies as you will from Amazon.com with their shoddy packaging.

A a bar code label with USPS a Tracking/Delivery Confirmation number is applied to your shipment. You will be advised of via email of the tracking when your order ships. USPS Media Mail (books, DVDs, CDs, maps) transit time is almost as good as UPS Ground today. Using a bar code label helps move the mail more quickly.

I've only had only six lost and three damaged shipments out of 20,000+ since 1999. This includes International shipments. I use a freight forwarder for International shipments. Canadian shipments bypass the USPS and go directly to Windsor, Ontario via my freight forwarder. It may take up to 2 weeks before Canada Post tracking information is available as we must consolidate orders to forward.

Defective DVDs will be replaced by the same title if available. Since most of my books are in NEW CONDITION and still in the printers plastic shrink-wrap, opened and thumbed through titles become used and a 20 percent re-stocking/used charge will apply plus the shipping costs incurred.
