Sofia: Proletizdat Alfa, 1931. Octavo (23.2 × 15.8 cm). Original pictorial wrappers, signed "K. K."; 48 pp. Very light wear; small postal address label to rear wrapper; very good. Double issue of the Bulgarian socialist journal, which was initially subtitled a "monthly journal for workers' education, organization, and struggle." It was published from 1928 to 1934 and edited by Georgi Borshukov, Sotir Ianev (1891-1943), Asen Zlatarov, and Dimo Vodenicharov. By the fourth year, the journal would bill itself as the main organ of Bulgarian socialists. The contributions include socio-economic and political news from Bulgaria and abroad, articles on the workers' movement, bolshevism, anarchism, and translations of articles from the international "red press." With a translation of an article by Fritz Tarnow, an essay on the five year plan by Peter Garvy, and others. With a linocut print by Albert Denens (?) entitled "The Proletarian", a portrait of Jean Jaurès, and a woodcut entitled "The unemployed" by Josef Wills (?). With attractive drawn wrappers by Kiril Kalinov (signed K. K.), incorporating a large red triangle suggesting the dispersion of sound (or light) from the "Red Tribune," and incorporating attractive lettering. KVK, OCLC only show a run for 1932 at the British Library and Columbia, and a single issue each at IISH Amsterdam and Stanford.
