Vol. 5 only. v, [3], 375, [1] p.; 17 cm. 19th-century half calf with six spine compartments between double gilt rules. Gilt-tooled title in second compartment: "Watson's Essays." Dark green and black marbled paper over boards. Contents: I. Observasions on the Sulphur Wells at Harrowgate, made in July and August, 1895 -- II. Experiments and Observations on various Phenomena attending the Solution of Salts -- III. An Essay on the Subjects of Chemistry and their general Division -- IV. Some Remarks on the Effects of the great Cold in February, 1771 -- V. Account of an Experiment made with a Thermometer, the Bulb of which was pointed Black, and exposed to the direct Rays of the Sun -- VI. A Plan of a Course of Chemical Lectures -- VII. Institutionum Chemicarum in Praelectionibus Academicis explicatarum, par Metallurgica. The author, Richard Watson (1737-1816), was professor of chemistry at Cambridge before he became Bishop of Llandaff. Scarce. In Very Good Condition: edges are rubbed; minor loss at head of spine; pages are clean and tight.
