Johnny Gruelle, an American artist, political cartoonist, and a writer of children's books, is the creator of the Raggedy Ann doll and character. Gruelle worked with P.F. Volland Company; the first Raggedy Ann story came out in 1918. From 'The Cheery Scarecrow', 1929. "And even on stormy days when the hat of the Scarecrow is wet and bedraggled and the water has soaked through his clothes, the children know he is just as cheery as on that one beautiful day, for his smile remains always the same." Colored illustrations' are clean & bright- as are the pictorial boards square, clean, & bright- hinges and cloth spine in excellent shape. There is a bright and clear Johnny Gruelle autograph on the half title page. An owner's name is penciled on front endpaper. Housed in a new pictorial box..
