About This Item

London: Chatto and Windus , 1989. First edition. Magazine. Fine. 8" by 5". None . Two excellent first editions of these non fictional volumes in the Chatto Counter Blasts series, discussing political and religious issues. Signed by all three authors. The first edition of these pamphlets, published for the Chatto Counter Blasts series, being a series of non-fictional works in paperback discussing themes of religion, politics, and social issues of 1989. Two volumes, being Jonathan Raban's God, Man and Mrs Thatcher, and Ruth Rendell and Colin Ward's Undermining the Central Line. Both volumes are signed by all three authors, Raban's to the title page, and Rendell and Ward's to the half title page. Jonathan Raban critiques the Sermon of the Mound: an address made by Margaret Thatcher on the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in May 1988. The speech proved highly controversial, with a clergyman even describing it as "a disgraceful travesty of the gospel." With the text of the speech included in the volume.Ruth Rendell and Colin Ward's political tract discusses important issues regarding the government and its structure in six concise and thorough essays.  In the original publisher's illustrated paper wraps. Externally lovely. Signed by Jonathan Raban to the title page of God, Man and Mrs Thatcher, and by Ruth Rendell and Colin Ward to the half title page of Undermining the Central Line. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Fine
