About This Item

Random House, 2005. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Fine, fresh, unread copy in equally fine dust jacket. First edition, first printing. Hardcover in glossy illustrated boards featuring the Addams Family. 382 pp. with index. Illustrated with photographs and reproductions. The first biography of one of America's greatest cartoonists, creator of one of the most recognizable "family" (the Addams Family), Charles Addams (1912-1988). His cartoons most notably appeared in "The New Yorker" magazine beginning in 1932 and then reguarly appearing from 1937 (the first appearance of the Addams Family) until his death. Despite the fact that he was best known for macabre subjects like homicidal spouses, demonic children,a nd genteel monsters, Addams himself was a sunny, funny, urbane man. A New Jersey native, he had a dog (that hated children), a taste for crossbows, raced classic sportscars, and juggled beautiful women (including Joan Fontaine, Jackie Kennedy, and Greta Garbo). He also had a relationship with a dangerous woman who forever changed his life (you'll have to read the book to find out).
