About This Item

St. Louis, MO: MCE Publishing, 1996. First Edition. Hardcover. Good+/Fair+. Gustave Dore. Dan Malan Signature. None First Edition, introduction by Dan Malan with Autograph on title page. A lovely version of Dickens' classic Xmas tale complemented by the long-lost engravings done by French illustrator Dore for this story. 176 pages. First Printing in this format from 1996 (First, thus), this hardcover book has beige cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine. Original Dust Jacket shows shelf wear, overall good condition. The point of this publication, supervised by Dan Malan, of The Classics Collector magazine, is the presence of 45 lost engravings by Gustave Dore along with 130 other Victorian illustrations. Dore did a fine job--his ghosts are the scariest, his poor the shabbiest, and his Scrooge the meanest among the examples on display--but it was a job for an ephemeral publication, not to be compared with the artist's independent projects. The full Dickens text is of course present; this reprint is an interesting oddity. -- The Atlantic Monthly, Phoebe-Lou Adams. Oversized or heavy volume, additional shipping charges will apply. Please ask for additional photos prior to purchasing. We are happy to send additional photos. 1LR Darkened around the edges
