London: John Murray, 1876. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 7" by 4.5". None. A beautifully bound copy of Smiles' work on character. In a tree calf binding by R&A Suttaby Samuel Smiles was a Scottish author and government reformer known for his work Self-Help, a liberal, politically charged self help work on the merits of thrift. In a full tree calf binding by Suttaby. Externally, very smart with slight rubbing to extremities. Booksellers label to front pastedown. Front hinge slightly strained after front endpaper with endpaper loosening but otherwise firm. Ink inscription to verso of front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean aside from the odd scattered spot. Very Good Indeed

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
