Jackson offered the present study as his dissertation for the doctorate at Johns Hopkins University in 1890. At the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, he read to a group of historians a paper on his now famous theory concerning the frontier. 'Without warning he set forth a new hypothesis, and there opened a new peiod in the interpretation of the history of the United States...' Frederick L Paxson in D.A.B. as quoted in Grolier American Hundred, No. 96. First edition of the historian's first separate publication. Barring a few small stains on the front cover, a fine crisp copy in wrappers (paperback).
