About This Item

New York: Touchtstone/Simon & Schuster, 2001. Paperback. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7?" - 9?" tall. Trade Paperback in Very Good Condition. Pages toned, a whisper of wear to cover corners, otherwise clean, unmarked book, tight and solid glued binding, gently used. A 'haunting and ultimately triumphant memoir' about growing up poor in the South, in Alabama, in an impoverished, chaotic family with a fiery-eyed alcoholic father, a humble and heroic mother, and a shanty full of rambunctious brothers and sisters--tender, gripping, and at times, even funny, as she transforms her life and learns to believe in the beauty she brings forth from inside. 317 pages. 8.5 x 5.5 inches. 2001, Touchtstone/Simon & Schuster, New York.

Reviews

On Jan 26 2017, a reader said:
This is one of my all time favorites. Read it....oh gosh...seventeen years ago. And, have bought many copies over the years ago for gifts.

I live in Alabama, and lived within a hundred miles of where the author was born. One lazy Sunday afternoon I rode over to Kimberly, where this story came to life. Great read!
