A tight copy to boot of the 1980 1st English language edition. Solid and VG (light offsetting to the pastedowns and endsheets, light foxing along the edges) in a crisp, price-intact, VG+ dustjacket, with mild foxing --and a bit of creasing-- at the flap-folds. Octavo, light pencil underlining (no doubt Ted Sorensen's) intermittently thru the text. Preface by Brian Urquhart. Waldheim's take --as Secretary-General of the United Nations-- on its current (and potential) roles on the global stage.

Secretary-General's thoughts on the U.N.'s role in maintaining international law and order, boldly inscribed and by him on the front flyleaf: "To M.S. Clifton / with best wishes / Kurt Waldheim / 1987." Laid in is a Typed Note Signed from an aide sending this book from the Austrian president's office, and a second transmittal letter (in original envelope) from the Austrian Consulate in Atlanta, transmitting this book.
