About This Item
Columbo, Ceylon: A.C. Richards, Acting Government Printer, Ceylon, 1924. Book. Illus. by 7 fine plates of coins on heavy stock paper. Very Good. Full-Leather. 1st Edition. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. This definitive study of ancient Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) coins has notoriously fragile paper. This copy has a sheet of modern paper in between each sheet of the original 1924 book. This permits the reader to easily handle the brittle sheets, using the modern paper to protect handling. There are some sheets with tears and flaws, but they are easily managed with care. Bound in India or Sri Lanka in sull black calf with bright gilt title on the front board and the unfaded spine. The fine plates are superior to all modern reprints. A Scarce, sought after volume that has been rebound as an act of respect as well as useability..This binding has split between the paper block and the last plate. Easily repairable, but the volume is so solid you can get along without the repair. .
