About This Item
London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd. , 1891 . Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5". None. An excellent copy of the fourth edition of this popular non-fiction travel work on South Africa, written by H. Rider Haggard. The fourth edition, with a new introduction. First published in 1882. Bound in the publisher's blue cloth. H. Rider Haggard's travel account of his six years spent working in South Africa. The titular 'Cetywayo' is the Zulu king Cetshwayo kaMpande, who greatly opposed the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War, and was exiled following the Zulu defeat. This was Haggard's first full-length published work, writing this work as he was also studying for the Bar. In the publisher's blue cloth binding. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is slightly strained, with cords visible. Staining to the endpapers, not affecting further pages. Previous owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the occasional spot or handling mark. The odd spot to fore edge.
