About This Item
New York: Macmillan, 1933. New edition, revised and reset. Hardcover. Very Good. frontis, photos, xii, 302p. Original maroon cloth. 22 cm. Minor cover soiling and wear, include a couple of modest bumps. No Jacket. INSCRIBED on half-title by Lovejoy ("To Louise Lovejoy Saunders --- E. Lovejoy" -- perhaps someone related to her second and final husband from who she was divorced in 1920). An account of relief efforts by American Women's Hospitals among the refugees in or from the former Ottoman Empire after World War I. Lovejoy, who graduated from the Medical School at the University of Oregon in 1894, had been serving as General Director of American Women's Hospitals for fourteen years (1919-1933) when this revised edition was published. We don't know what revisions or updates were made in this uncommon revised edition but the length of the book increased to 344 pages from 302 in the earlier edition. Some of the increased length may have come from reformatting but we spotted at least a few post-1927 dates in the last few chapters.
