José García Payón he was distinguished as the head of the Department of Archaeology of the government of the State of Mexico in 1929. He began archaeological explorations in Tecaxic- Calixtlahuaca between the years of 1930 and 1938, paying special attention to monumental architecture. He made excavations in Matlatzinca and Malinalco and later in the Center of Veracruz, particularly in Cempoala , El Tajín and Huaxteca , to mark the paths of future archaeological research in those regions, by establishing the theoretical basis of their cultural development to the extent that Today a photo library bears his name.
