About This Item

New York: Harper and Row, 1965. Reprint. Paperback. Used - Good. Well-worn. Corner missing from front cover. Acceptable reading copy.

Synopsis

A Century of Dishonor exposes how various people, from the military personnel to the government official, viewed Native Americans. Jackson outlines treaties between the federal government and various Native American tribes, treaties that were supposed to protect the rights of the Native American people and “ensure” them title to their lands, but were broken by the United States Government. She also tells of massacres, citing letters written by members of the United States military, detailing the horrendous acts committed against Native American women and children. When it was published in 1885, A Century of Dishonor created such a stir that the U.S. Department of the Interior appointed Jackson and Abbot Kinney to investigate the conditions of Native Americans in missions in California.

About AST Press

I have been selling books dealing with the Indian wars, especially George Custer, since 1986. I first published my own books under my own imprint of AST Press. More recently, I have published my books through other publishers, most notably the University of Oklahoma Press. I also buy and resell the book collections of other individuals. Other genres now include the Civil War, Old West, biographies and others. We are always open to by collections. I sell through our own web site, Indianwarsbooks.com, and others such as Biblio.com. I also continue to set up my inventory books at shows, including the Little Big Horn Associates, the Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Assn. and Civil War shows.
