Albany Georgia: Alden Associates, 1964. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good+/None Issued. VG+/1st ed./Signed by Previous Owner. A clean tight copy, square corners with brown lettering on front panel and pebbled texture finsih over boards. Clean bright unmarked pages. Previously owned by historian and author Virginia S. Wood--signed by Mrs. Wood and dated Sept 22, 1972. List after list of information about Wilkes County, which was created from the northern section of St. Paul's Parish. In order to attract settlers after the Revolutionary War, Georgia granted headrights and bounty lands to all Revolutionary Soldiers. This 157 page book inclues many early records, made into alphabetical list. A few of the list are: Wilkes County Early Marriage Records ( the earliest I see offhand is 1792), Wilkes County Tax List (1792), Wilkes County Land Lottery Fortunate Drawers(1827), Cherokee Land Lottery (for Revolutionary Soldiers and Widows of Revolutionary Soldiers living in Wilkes County, Revolutionary Soldiers known to be living in Wilkes County at the time of their Deaths and Wives names, Abstracts and Wills for Wilkes County, etc. Also includes 2 maps of Wilkes County in 1777 and 1877. Comes to you in an non acid archival document bag, and I can have it in the mail to you tomorrow.
