Riverside, Cambridge, 1923. Early Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. JOHN BURROUGHS. In the Catskills, Cambridge: Riverside Press, 1923. Octavo, later printing of a 1910 book, pp. xii, 251, gray cloth boards with gilt lettering and fillets on front, green landscape and gilt frame on front, halftone photos by Clifton Johnson. The author, a leading American naturalist of the 19th century, was born in the Catskills and lived there much of his life, writing under the influence of Walt Whitman; Thoreau not so much. Condition: Good with sunned spine, worn at edges, 1 photo plate coming loose. Foxing to preliminaries and photo plates, images fine. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
