About This Item

Sotheby Parke Bernet Publications, auction catalogue for the sale held on 21 June 1982. Decorated boards, large 4to,. 127 pp, numerous plates including several in colour. 20 lots. From the Book Collector's report of the sale: "[the] quality of the catalogue, in appearance and all round scholarship ..., exceeded all previous records in this respect. ...Mr H. P. Kraus, miraculously restored to health, carried all (or most) before him, at prices amazingly close to the estimated figures. He bought the Corbie Orosius ... the St Gall Pontifical ...and the Augsburg Sacramentary..; the Chur Lectionary and Constance Collectary..., the Schernberg Psalter... and a Jean de Colombe Hours... It was quite a remarkable outing, even by Kraus standards....But the real victor of the evening was Sotheby's: the catalogue and the estimates represent a new peak of scholarly and commercial precision. Fine.
