San Francisco: Paul Elder and Co, 1915. Hardcover. VG, one of 1000 copies printed, this being 738 of Volume 1 ONLY. Vellum spine with embossed brown paper-covered boards. (xix, 233 pp.) 98 bw plates. This is Volume 1 of a two-volume set: The first 75 pages of Vol. 1 contain biographies on the eminent American artists of the period. The description of the American contributions begins on page 159 of this volume, and continues on into Vol. 2 (not present). It includes a complete Biographical Index of American Artists represented at the Exposition. Each artist is given a biographical introduction of varying length, which might include dates, awards, addresses, collections, etc. This is followed by a complete listing of that artists work as it appears at the expo, it's identification number, and the name of any lender. This is followed by similar sections for American Etchers, Engravers and Lithographers; and also a section American Sculptors and Medalists. The description of American Art exhibitors accounts for appx. 74 pages of Vol. 1. The index at rear of this volume lists 44364 works by Americans in the United States section.gives the complete listing of all exhibitors, from all countries, at the exposition, and lists the page number(s) on which their work may be seen, and indicates if a photographic reproduction is supplied. 68 of the bw plates in this volume are after works by American Artists. A very scarce set in very good condition overall.
