NY: Random House. As New in Near Fine dust jacket. 1958. Stated First Edition. First Printing. Hard Cover. First edition, first printing. "First Printing" stated on copyright page. The dust jacket shows the Cat in the Hat with a white bow-tie and a white snowball to the left of his tail, as do the pictorial boards; the rear panel of the dust jacket has a chalkboard which lists titles to "Sam and the Firefly." [Younger & Hirsch 11]. Publisher's original laminated pictorial boards, titles to spine and front board in black, red, and blue, color illustrated endpapers. Colour illustrations throughout by Dr. Seuss. . The volume is in perfect, pristine condition, unmarked, tight, square, and clean. The dust jacket (now in Mylar) has a small area of abraison on the front panel and some very light spotting on the rear panel, else fine. A very nice copy. AS NEW/NEAR FINE.. Color Illustrations. Small 4to 9" - 11" tall. 61, (2) pp .

Synopsis

The Cat in the Hat is a children's book by Dr. Seuss, featuring a tall, anthropomorphic, mischievous cat, wearing a tall, red and white striped hat, and a bowtie. He also carries an umbrella. With the series of Beginner Books that The Cat inaugurated, Seuss promoted both his name and the cause of elementary literacy in the United States.
