About This Item

New York, NY: Random House, 1945 Random House, New York. 1945. Hardcover. A Wartime Book. BCE dot on rear board. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a F/O name on the FFFP. Book Condition: light shelfwear to head, tail, and tips; suntoned spine; light soiling to boards; glue browning to endpapers; small water spots on the tinted textblock top. No DJ. Gray cloth boards and spine with bight gilt lettering in a black shadowbox on the spine; author initials on front board in gilt. Clean internals. Interior hinges are sound and not split. 390 pp 8vo. This novel is very different from Lewis' progressive crusades. This one is about husbands, lovers, interferers, and emotions all set in a medium size town in Minnesota. This novel plays on the tight-knit social life there is in a small town and contrasts it with the impersonal life in New York City. He shows the good in people how that is often overlooked and fractures a couple as it did Cass Timberlane and his young wife. A clean presentable copy.
