New York: Howell, 1870. Original document. Very Good. Head-and-shoulders sepiatone image of Vanderbilt in coat, white shirt and collar, and white bow tie, sporting his full white sideburns. Gilt-stamped below the image: "Howell, 867 & 869 Broadway." In gilt on the black verso are Howell's stylized signature and the two sides of an exhibition medal. Vanderbilt (1794-1877), railroad and shipping magnate, worked his way from a boyhood of poverty to become one of the richest people in American history, founded Vanderbilt University, &c.
