New York: Gurney & Son, 1870. Original document. Fine. Three-quarters-length sepiatone image of Booth in a vest with watch fob, coat with wide lapels, white shirt and bow tie, seated and looking slightly to his right. Printed below the image, "Gurney & Son, Fifth Ave., N.Y." On the verso are the Gurney crest and name, along with an address correction: "Removed to 872 Broadway, Corner 18th St., N.Y." Written in light pencil is "Edwin Booth" [not an authentic signature]. Booth (1833-1893) toured the US and Europe as an American actor starring in various Shakespeare plays. He founded Booth's Theatre in New York in 1869. As brother to John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln, Edwin Booth's career was not an easy path.
