Inscribed by the author to George Simpson, head gardener at Windsor Castle, the third edition of Carnations and All Dianthus by Montagu C. Allwood.. Octavo, xxxii, 380pp. Green cloth, title in gilt on spine. No additional printings listed. Solid text block, slight bow to front cover, bumped corners, foxed edges, a very good example. In a very good dust jacket with wear to top edge. Vibrant colored plate of carnations on front panel. Inscribed "For G. Simpson / An old Friend + famous grower of Carnations. From The Author Montagu C. Allwood 14/1/48" on the front free endpaper. Includes a signed letter from Allwood to Simpson, wishing him a happy New Year and recognizing that he has "done so much for the Carnation." George Simpson worked as the King's head gardener at Windsor Castle throughout the 1940s and 50s. Simpson was well respected in the field of gardening, serving as a judge in the Olympia Flower Show in 1950.
