Paperback format, vintage photos including frontispiece, 264 pages. THIS IS NOT A RECENT REPRINT, BOOK ON DEMAND, OR A FACIMILE - THIS IS THE 1899 EDITION. Condition of binding: Pieces missing and chips/abrasions on spine panel; shelf wear/scattered rubbing and light soiling; creases; lightly age toned. Textblock: Bump to top corner of several pages; creases (many look like they occurred during the printing the book). Overall book is Good or perhaps Fair Plus. Text is clear and very readable. Photos are vivid. Book kept in a temperature-controlled room; there are no smoke smells from cigarettes or cigars. This is a historical biography of Admiral George Dewey who commanded the Asiatic Squadron 1897-1898. He helped destroy or capture the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay, captured land batteries at Cavite, and took possession of Manila. He was the only officer to hold the rank of Admiral of the Navy.
