About This Item

London/Dublin/Edinburgh: T. Cadell, R. Milliken, and W. Blackwood, 1824. Mortimer O'Sullivan (1791?-1859), a converted cleric of the Church of Ireland, published this with a pseudonym as a rejoinder to Thomas Moore's "Memoirs of Captain Rock." Initially critical of Irish landlords, O'Sullivan became an anti-Catholic polemicist and member of the Orange Order. This is a Very Good copy of the text of the First Edition. Disbound. The covers are present but unattached and the spine is exposed. Clean text; 450 pages, toned at the edges. Quite clear and bright; pages stiff. The first free endpaper has two stamps: that of W.A. Hinch, Dublin bookseller, and of the St. Ignatius House of Writers. The half-title page has a contemporary ink signature and "by Mortimer O'Sullivan." Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of repairs or restoration.. First Edition. Disbound. Poor/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
