About This Item

Tokyo, Japan: Seibundo-Shinkosha Publishing Company, 1956. The cover is made from Judogi fabric, used to fashion the judo uniform jacket. Front cover and spine lettered in black. Some light wear of spine lettering but quite readable. See photos. Illustrated endpapers. This is the so-called "Holy Grail" of the judo community. Replete with photographs in black and white throughout the text, with the author's instructive positions and techniques. Very clean and crisp throughout. Kyuzo Mifune (1883-1965) was one of the greatest exponents of the art of judo after only the founder Kano Jigoro. He is considered one of the greatest judo technicians ever. Later edition are seen for sale, but seldom does a first edition appear on the market. OCLC records twenty libraries worldwide holding the book, and ABPC did not show a single auction sale the past 30 years. Reprint editions are now selling for $500-600. It is our pleasure to offer this rare treatise on the art of judo. 245pp.. First English Edition. White Woven Cloth. Light Cover Wear and Soiling/No Dust Jacket. Super Royal Octavo.
