About This Item
Winnipeg MB: The Impressionists, 1993. Revised. Metal Can. As New/As New. An unusual item, in AS NEW condition. The printed word preserved in a metal skin, "The CANNED THINK, yours to open" is a book of poetry. The pages are three inches wide by 32 inches long rolled into a half pint tin can. The form is derived from ancient eastern manuscripts and old proclamations of the western world. It is a format that frees the printed page from the conventional three-dimensional cubiform structure. The contents are 33 selected poems by Tyrrell Mendis printed on one side only on eight pages. The pages are fastened together with a single eyelet to facilitate display on a vertical surface. In most copies all the pages are white, and in some there is at least one coloured page. The coloured pages are white, yellow, orange and blue in no particular order. This poetry in a can is a tonic for the mind, providing a new stimulant in a familiar package that is symptomatic of our mechanised materialistic world. First published in 1970, "the CANNED THINK, yours to open" is now become a collector's item. 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall.
