A 1967 novel by Nobel prize-winning Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn. It describes the meeting of various cancer patients in an Uzbek hospital in the Soviet Union of the mid-1950s. The novel is considered partly autobiographical because the author himself was treated for a tumor in Tashkent in the 1950s and can be recognized in one of the main characters.
