About This Item
Ottawa, Ontario: Carleton University Press. Very Good. 1986. Reprint. Softcover. 088629035X . 324 p. 22 cm. Sound and square binding in cardstock covers. Front cover curling somewhat. A little wear to the corners and spine ends. The spine is lightly faded. Inside pages are clean, with one leaf having a tiny corner fold. A scholarly reprint of this story written by pioneer woman Catharine Parr Traill, based on the 1852 first edition. Includes editorial notes and comments at the beginning by Rupert Schieder and footnotes throughout the text. Living not far from Rice Lake, I have often wondered what this area looked like to the early white settlers to the area. It the thought of lving in the dark woods that I would probably have found unbearable. .
