About This Item

Summerland BC: Canada West Magazine, 1969. First Edition. Soft cover. Collectible Good. Original issue, first printing thus. 4to pictorial wraps. 31pp. Illustrated with b/w vintage photos and wonderful drawings and hand-drawn maps executed by Barlee. Contents: General map (Southern Interior of British Columbia), Sandon-Ghost Town, Our Vanishing Heritage, South Similkameen-The Eagle Country, How to Pan Gold, Indian Artifacts-East Kootenay, Yukon Diary. The front cover sports a haunting photo of the ghost town of Sandon a few years after the Carpenter Creek flood. Barlee's magazine, which was published for several years, is a high spot in the literature of the history of British Columbia, particularly about the old mining towns and mines. Barlee was a history teacher in Penticton and went on to serve in the B. C. Parliament. Your bookseller corresponded with him at one point. Highly collectable and the original issue is very scarce. Very scarce.
