About This Item

1851. A colored lithographic image of the residence of C. Boydell in the Morpeth region of New South Wales. This image was also used in a composite view of Australian gold fields images issued by the Illustrated London News on October 25, 1851. Extracted from a scrap album, it has a rather unusual lacquered finish as if taken from the lid of a box. The lacquer has some cracks in it. 5 1/4 x 2 1/2". This image is not recorded in the National Gallery of Australia's collection of nine images by Balcombe, which are either of Australian aborigines or of horses and hunts.
