About This Item

Aperture, New York, 1976. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fine Condition/Near Fine. Black cloth boards stamped in silver on the front and the spine, duotones, with a 19-page introduction by John Szarkowski. The editors claim this is the most complete selection of Callahan's photos ever published -- well more than 100, said to be of a quality as high as the original prints. See Roosens/Salu 1275. Roth, p. 204: "Despite a museum retrospective concurrent with the book's publication, and its sensitive reproductions by Rapoport Printing Corporation, Harry Callahan's first comprehensive museum monograph was a slow sell for MoMA and copublisher Aperture when it was issued in 1976. Years later, when the book had fallen out of print and the need for a second edition was more urgently felt, the separations necessary for making its reproduction had disintegrated. Aperture's best efforts failed to produce the financial support required to reprint the book, and it has never been republished." Condition: Dust jacket abraded at fore edge of front panel, all else fine. Size: Quarto. 203. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 2-3 kilos. Category: Photography; United States; Modern; Art & Design. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 54853. .
