Illustrated with ten additional halftone photo reproductions. Index, appendix including county name origins and narrative of Frémont's 800-mile ride. Red textured publisher's cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the cover and spine, head edge gilt, others untrimmed. Front endpaper inscribed in ink "Faithfully yours, John Steven McGroarty," and part of a signed typescript laid in expressing thanks for interest in his Mission Play (first produced in 1912.) Endpapers moderately age toned, former owner ink stamp to ffep, board edges rubbed, leaves crisp and binding tight. A well preserved copy, now with a clear, removable archival sleeve.
