Illustrated endpapers. Description: Illustrated with drawings by Lynd Ward who also supplied the jacket and endpaper art (these not credited, but the style is clearly his). The Landmark series presents historic and biographical books for young readers, designed to hold the attention as well as to inform. Lives of outstanding people and topics of interest in American and world history are presented in story form with illustrations. May McNeer is the author of two other books in the Landmark series: The Alaska Gold Rush and War Chief of the Seminoles (both of these were also illustrated by her husband, Lynd Ward).
