First Edition decorated American trade binding (signed binding - FBS - Frank Berkeley Smith), preceded by an edition of 100 copies in plain cloth. Clean beige-gray cloth boards with gold, black and orange decoration (floating bouy with lighthouse and seagull in background), gold lettering on cover; gold lettering on spine. No fraying or wear. Hint of very slight tanning to spine. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean. Previous owner name in beautiful handwriting at top edge of front free endpaper. Ten illustrations by Malcolm Fraser and Arthur I. Keller, including frontispiece illustration with clean tissue guard. 378 pages..
