The work was chosen for translation and analysis here is an adaptation of El gran teatro del mundo, one of the masterpieces of the Spanish dramatist Pedro Calderon de la Barca and a typical example of the genre known as the auto sacramental. This literary form is essentially an allegorical drama centered around the Eucharist. It attained unprecedented popularity during the lifetime of Calderon, who had few rivals in the composition of the autos sacramentals presented during the annual festival of the Corpus Christi season.
